Malcolm Daniel

Curator in Charge, Department of Photography
Curator of Special Projects
The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX, USA
Malcolm Daniel joined the MFAH as head of the Photography Department in December 2013 after 23 years at the Metropolitan Museum of Art including 10 as Curator in Charge and Senior Curator of Photographs. Although his area of scholarly expertise is the 19th century, he has curated exhibitions and written about photographs covering the full history of the medium.

He is most interested in seeing fine art and documentary work by photographers who have already produced several bodies of mature work. He is not interested in seeing commercial or fashion photography.

In his capacity as department head, he is responsible for photography acquisition and exhibition decisions at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. With 25 years of curatorial experience, he can offer advice about which bodies of work or individual pictures seem the most fruitful direction to pursue.
