London, United Kingdom
Ellen Shapiro lives with her husband, tax lawyer Daniel Shapiro, in London, England. However, Ellen is an American from New York City, where she continues to keep a home. She has three grown sons in the USA and seven grandchildren.

Ellen was in business for twenty years before retiring and becoming deeply involved in the field of art photography. While living in NY she served on MoMA’s Contemporary Art Council, MoMA’s Photography Committee and the Board of the American Friends of the Israel Museum.

Moving to London in 2002 gave her an opportunity to enlarge her collection with an eye towards more contemporary work including that of established artists as well as emerging talent. In London she has served for four years on the Tate Photography Acquisition Committee, remains on the MoMA’s Photography Council. She is a Patron of the Photographers Gallery and head of The National Portrait Gallery Photography Committee. She has written and lectured on building a contemporary photography collection. Her collection is visited by groups from museums and other arts organizations.
