Tamara Berghmans

FOMU – Fotomuseum, Antwerpen, Belgium
Tamara Berghmans is curator of the Collection Department at FOMU – Fotomuseum Antwerp in Belgium. She has a PhD in Art History and has worked as Assistant Curator of Photography at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and has lectured at the Vrije Universiteit Brussels. She is the author of several publications, including Photography Inc (Lannoo, 2015), Looking for Love on the Left Bank (Aman Iman Publishing, 2013), The Eye of the Photographer (Lannoo, 2012) and The Making of a Photobook. Sanne Sannes’ Maquette for ‘Diary of an Erotomaniac’ (Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, 2010).

With a collection of more than 1 million items FOMU is one of the major players in Belgium in preserving our photographic heritage. Since 1965 it gathered an important (inter)national collection of photographic images, equipment and books. FOMU has 1661 m2 exhibition space. With an international exhibition program of 9 exhibitions/year FOMU attracts 75 000 à 90 000 visitors. Previous exhibitions include August Sander, Jan Rosseel, Jeffrey Silverthorne, Richard Mosse, Broomberg & Chanarin, Ed van der Elsken, Rinko Kawauchi, Mikhael Subotzky & Patrick Waterhouse, Vincent Delbrouck, Weegee, Carl De Keyzer, Charles Fréger. Exhibitions to be expected in 2016 are Boris Mikhailov and Mariken Wessels.

Tamara Berghmans is most interested in seeing art photography, street photography and documentary work. She is not interested is commercial or fashion photography. She is responsible for the photography acquisition at the FOMU and is also looking for new photographers to exhibit at the museum.
