Ariel Shanberg is and independent curator and artist advocate. From 2003 – 2015 he served as the Executive Director of the Center for Photography at Woodstock where he oversaw its wide range of offerings including exhibitions, publications, artist residencies, and educational programs. In addition to his tenure at CPW, Shanberg has contributed essays to accompany publications on the work of numerous artists including Lucas Foglia, Jeffery Milstein, and Hillerbrand + Magsamen. He has guest-curated exhibitions at various venues including Food for Thought at the Light Factory in Charlotte, NC and All Hot and Bothered at the Dorsky Museum in New Paltz, NY.

As a reviewer, Ariel offers participants professional development, editorial guidance, and curatorial insight. He is most interested in viewing cohesive bodies of work centered on conceptually and socially driven theme(s) that have been or are near completion. He welcomes reviewing image-based work produced in a wide range of techniques and processes including antiquarian, mixed media, video and new media.

Shanberg prefers not to review work that is centered on traditional nudes, pictorial landscapes, floral, fashion, or stock photography,
