Christopher Atkins

Curator of Exhibitions & Public Programs
Minnesota Museum of American Art, St. Paul, MN, USA
Christopher Atkins has curated and juried numerous museum exhibitions, co-developed site-specific projects, and worked on various artist-in-residency programs, including solo exhibitions by photographers Eric Carroll, Pao Her, Jason Fulford, and Anthony Marchetti. He recently presented Mark Mothersbaugh: Myopia at the MIA, which is on a national tour from the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver.

Mr. Atkins has served as an adjunct lecturer at the College of Visual Arts, Minneapolis College of Art & Design, and Macalester College where he taught courses on museum studies and contemporary art. He holds M.Res & M.A. degrees in Visual Cultures from Goldsmiths College, University of London and a B.A., History of Art from the College of Wooster.

Christopher is most interested in seeing art photography projects that are near completion. He is interested in conceptual and abstract photography, as well as photography that includes scholarly research and/or takes a critical view of American history. He will be looking for work that is visually powerful and rich in content. He is also interested in work that investigates and pushes the limits of photography in form and materials. He expects photographers to be ready to discuss their work in detail and explain their decision making process. He is not interested in stock or commercial photography. Christopher can offer advice and feedback to artists about presenting and displaying their photography and promoting it to museums.
