Pedro Meyer is a pioneer and one of the most recognized figures of contemporary photography. He was founder and president of the Consejo Mexicano de Fotografía, organizer of the first three Latin-American photography colloquiums, and founder of the web-portal ZoneZero. He has been a teacher, curator, editor and author, publishing books such as Tiempos de America, Espejo de espinas and Los cohetes duraron todo el día. In 1991, he released one of the first audiovisual CD-ROMs, Fotografío para Recordar.

His book, Verdades y Ficciones: Un viaje de la fotografía documental a la digital, published by Aperture (1995), was turned into a CD by Voyager Editions. Lo real y lo verdadero, published by Peach Pitt Press was released in 2005. Seagull Press published in 2011 the book A Kind of Touching Beauty, a selection of pictures from the USA which illustrate a series of essays by the French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre. Mr. Meyer set for himself a seemingly impossible goal: the first worldwide simultaneous retrospective of his work. This project, Herejías, was shown on October 2008, and consisted of more than 60 exhibits in more than 17 countries around the world. Each one of them being different from the other, as the curators were free to choose from within 3000 images. The exhibition's companion book was published by Lunwerg Press in 2008. A database of his lifetime work was compiled and became the Archivo Pedro Meyer.

His work has been exhibited in more than 260 exhibits, in important museums and galleries around the globe, becoming part of important collections such as the ones in the National Art Museum and The Guangzhou Art Museum in China; Akron’s Art Museum, Queen’s Museum, International Centre of Photography, George Eastman’s House, San Francisco’s Modern Art Museum, The Centre for Creative Photography, and California’s Photography Museum, in the United States; The Australian Centre for Photography in Australia; The Victoria and Albert Museum in England; The Georges Pompidou Centre for the Arts in France; The House of the Americas in Cuba and the Centro Studi e Archivio della Comunicazione, Università degli Studi di Parma y Comuna di Anghiari, Palazzo Pretorio, in Italy.

In 2007, Mr. Meyer founded the Fundación Pedro Meyer. The Fundacion’s mission is to contribute on the reflection, interpretation and investigation of the image and the new media. It offers a rich educational program of workshops and online courses about photography, visual language, technology and different ways of telling stories through images. The Foundation has team up with World Press Photo to give a series of masterclasses for young Latin American photographers and foreign photographers based in Latin America.

Opening in September 2015, the FotoMuseo Cuatro Caminos is a space dedicated to education, exhibition, and experimentation that aims towards new visions and reflections on contemporary photography. So far the museum hosted the exhibitions Todo Por Ver and El Estado de las Cosas which showcased a broad panorama of the multiple and complex photographic discourses of contemporary photography in Mexico. In February 2016 a groundbreaking retrospective of the work of the Witkin Brothers will open with more than 100 images on show and exhibiting material never seen before. Also in parallel, a retrospective of the legendary Mexican photographer Enrique Metinides will be on view.

Mr. Meyer is interested in seeing resolved bodies of work, and works-in-progress, which show conceptual strength and originality of vision.
