Lars Willumeit

Independent Curator, Photo Editor & Author
Zurich, Switzerland
Lars Willumeit, a German Social Anthropologist, has been working with photography in different forms since 1993. Also trained as a photographer, he has worked for 13 years as photo-editor for a number of magazines. Notably he worked for GEO Magazine in Hamburg and New York, as well as serving for five years a photo-director a DU Magazine in Zurich. Between 2013 and 2015 he curated exhibitions and fair-presentations for East Wing Gallery in Dubai and Format International Photography Festival in Derby, as well as writing extended contributions to the photo-book publication Deposit by Yann Mingard as well as contributing a dictionary called Factory Tools to the publication of the German Pavilion curated by Florian Ebner at the Venice Biennale in 2015. In December 2015 he will complete his Master of Arts degree in Art Education and Curating at University for the Arts in Zurich, Switzerland.

Mr. Willumeit is mostly interested in reviewing documentary work, in the broadest sense of the term, in both contexts of contemporary art and photo-journalism. But he is also interested in seeing conceptual work, street photography and portraiture. He is not interested in seeing commercial or fashion work. Mr. Willumeit is looking for work that might be exhibited in his upcoming exhibition projects. Because he has experience as a curator, photo-editor and photographer, he can offer advice on how to complete or improve works in progress as well as suggestions on presenting and promoting finished projects.
