Artist Bio

Camille Zakharia focuses on issues of displacement, sense of self, and identity in his art. His work has been widely exhibited in shows and festivals that include VIEW FROM INSIDE (2014), FotoFest, Houston; 55th Venice Art Biennale, Bahrain Pavilion (2013); Un arrière goût de Paradis (2013), Musée Albert-Kahn, Paris; Light from the Middle East: New Photography (2013), Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Recreational Purpose (2014), National Museum of Bahrain, Manama; Photoquai 2011: 3rd biennale des images du monde, Musée du quai Branly, Boulogne-Billancourt, France; 12th Venice Biennale for Architecture, Bahrain Pavilion (2010); Chobi Mela V International Festival of Photography (2009).

Zakharia’s work is in private and public collections including those of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Canadian Museum of Civilization, Hull, Quebec; National Museum of Bahrain, Manama; Qatar Museums Authority, Doha; and Barjeel Art Foundation, Sharjah, U.A.E. Zakharia was born in Lebanon in 1962. He earned a B.F.A. from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax, Canada, in 1997 and a B.S. in civil engineering from American University, Beirut, in 1985.
