Artist Bio

Ferit Kuyas’s work has been widely exhibited. Most notably in Relics (2014), San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, California (2014); Miasto Ambicji (2010), Zachęta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw; City of Ambition (2009), Blue Sky Gallery, Portland, Oregon; and Industriebild (1994), Fotomuseum Winterthur, Switzerland. His work is represented in numerous collections including those of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Musée de la Photographie à Charleroi, Belgium; and Portland Art Museum, Oregon. He has received a number of awards, among them a 1999 Kodak Photobook Award for Industrial Interiors (Zurich and New York: Edition Stemmle, 1999) and in 2002 a Hasselblad Masters Award. His main subject during the last fifteen years has been large cities and their inhabitants, with a focus since 2010 on Guatemala City; Aurora—Guatemala City Habitat was published by Ars Victoria Verlag Siegen, Germany, in 2013. Kuyas was born in Istanbul in 1955 and now lives near Zurich.
