Artist Bio

Mary Ellen Bartley is an American artist known for her photographs that explore books and objects caught in transition from the analog to the digital realm. Her work has been widely exhibited widely in both group and solo presentations. Notable solo exhibition venues include the Guild Hall Museum in East Hampton, New York, and Yancey Richardson Gallery, New York, where her work is represented. The painter Ross Bleckner chose Bartley to exhibit her work alongside his at the Parrish Art Museum’s Artists Choose Artists exhibition (2011) in Southampton, New York. In 2015, Bartley was an artist-in-residence at Watermill Center, New York, where she created the installation Reading Robert Wilson. She then created a “book of books” titled Reading Robert Wilson, which was shortlisted for the Dummy Awards at the 2015 Fotobookfestival Kassel, Germany. Work from her Standing Open series is featured in Discoveries of the Meeting Place at the FotoFest 2016 Biennial in Houston.
