Artist Bio

Rodrigo Valenzuela was born in Santiago, Chile in 1982 and completed an art history degree there before immigrating to the United States. He earned a M.F.A. at the University of Washington, Seattle in 2012. He has had recent solo exhibitions at the Frye Art Museum, Seattle, Washington (2015); Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, Santiago, Chile (2015); Upfor Gallery, Portland, Oregon (2015); Archer Gallery, Vancouver, Washington (2014); and Bryan Ohno Gallery, Seattle, Washington (2013). Valenzuela has participated in residencies at the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture, Maine; Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts, Omaha, Nebraska; Center for Photography at Woodstock, New York; and Vermont Studio Center, Johnson. Valenzuela is a recipient of a 2014 Arts Innovator Award from Artist Trust, the 2014 Texas Contemporary Art Fair Award, and a grant in 2013 from the University of California Institute for Research in the Arts. Valenzuela’s work is in the collections of the Frye Art Museum, Seattle, Washington and Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, New Paltz, New York, as well as in private collections including the de Bont collection and Dimensional Fund Advisors collection. /
